Company History
AV Homes and Joseph Carl Homes™, Past and Present
Joseph Carl Homes is part of the AV Homes family of companies. AV Homes was founded in 1933 and has prospered in a number of different industries through both strong and challenging economic conditions. Its present-day history in homebuilding and community development dates to the 1960s when the company began developing master-planned communities in Florida and Arizona. It is best known for its award-winning community of Poinciana, Florida, a 47,000-acre master planned community with homes for sale, approximately 20 miles south of Orlando. Recognized as one of America’s best-selling master-planned communities in the early 2000s, Poinciana is a community of more than 28,000 homes and approximately 80,000 residents including the company’s innovative flagship active adult community, Solivita.
Prior to the 2007 downturn in the industry for new home builders, AV Homes, then operating as Avatar Holdings Inc., recorded 4,634 sales during the three years between 2004 and 2006.
In 2010 AV Homes expanded its Arizona operations with the acquisition and merger of Joseph Carl Homes, a Phoenix-area company, founded a year earlier by Carl Mulac. Carl possessed more than 25 years of homebuilding experience, gain through his duties as an executive at some of America’s most successful homebuilding companies.
Today, Joseph Carl Homes operates in Arizona and Florida, serving home buyers of all ages with communities and custom homes designed to meet their individual lifestyle needs. The company is best-known for its innovative designs, expertise in green building, and delivering homes of outstanding quality and value to its customers. These attributes have earned the company numerous awards and recognition which today serve as a source of pride for all Joseph Carl Homes employees, and as a reminder of the high standards by which we must continue to serve our customers.
